When you visit the same restaurant twice within 24 hours, you know you’re a serious fan. And a fan I truly am. Introducing Grasslands. A truly unique take on vegan food. On a chilly Friday night a group of 5 hungry friends (vegans and non-vegans) ventured into this Queen West spot to enjoy what would become an exciting and delightful dinner experience. Upon entering it immediately had a cool casual vibe. It was fairly busy but we had made a reservation so we didn’t have any wait time. After looking over their fairly large drink menu, I decided on keeping it simple with a glass of shiraz. For appetizer I started with their delicious fennel and avocado salad. One of the other girls tried the BLT Caesar and was quite happy with it! It was well balanced and crispy! The main dish is what stood out for me. I went with the mustard crusted tempeh and it was spectacular. The breading was also gluten-free. Bonus! We all had intentions on trying one of their desserts but were all too full! Great experience overall.

The very next morning, I had a craving for waffles. Having heard Grasslands offers brunch on the weekends, heading back was a great option! The craving was definitely satisfied! I ordered their Belgian Waffles that were served with pineapple cranberry compote, fresh fruit, maple syrup and a generous amount of coconut cashew cream! My hubby who isn’t a vegan joined me and ordered their Chipotle Mac & Cheese. He said he couldn’t tell the difference between the regular “real cheese” version. Now that’s skill on Grasslands part! Notable mention goes to their coffee. I tried their Americano and it was on key!
