If you’ve ever been to Kensington market, and you’re a vegan or a vegetarian, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve been to Hibiscus Café. At the very least, you’ve heard of it. This little cafe/restaurant is located on the bustling street of Augusta in the heart of Kensington Market. It specializes in Gluten-Free buckwheat crepes that are made fresh and to order. Soups and salads are also on the menu, along with a selection of vegan ice-cream, cookies and other baked goodies. On this particular visit, I went with my mom who’s vegetarian. We ordered the soup of the day, which was a Ginger & Sweet Potato puree, along with crepes. I went for the Apple Cinnamon Sweet Crepe, while my mom choose the Mozzarella, Spinach and Mushroom Savory Crepe (note that this crepe can be made vegan by using Daiya cheese instead). We both enjoyed it and the coffee was good as well. Though I wanted to try some ice-cream, it was a cold day… and well… too cold for that! But I would like to visit again in the summer just to try the ice-cream!
